Welcome to the Jefferson Township Ruritan July 4th 2011 Celebration

June 14, 2011

Welcome to the Blog site of the Annual Jefferson Township July 2-3-4 Celebration. This event is hosted annually in the town of Otwell, Indiana, located in northern Pike County in Southwestern Indiana. The event began in 1957, hosted by the newly-formed Jefferson Township Ruritan as a fund raiser for community projects. Speaking as the daughter of one of those charter members, I think it’s safe to say that it was also seen as a chance for everyone to come together in the middle of summer and have some good food and fun–and who wouldn’t love that?

I hope you’ll find the site helpful in planning your weekend while in Otwell. Our town is small (434 population according to the 2010 census) and located on state highway 257. Despite its small size, the citizens remain quite active in maintaining a volunteer Fire Department, several churches, a few small businesses, the Ruritan Club, the Community Center organization, a Community Center building with dining room and gymnasium, a small park on the community center grounds, a branch of the county library system, and a pre-k through five elementary school.

Come join us and treat yourself to some excellent hometown food from excellent cooks, some country fun, and some great fireworks at the end of the night.

It's that Time of Year!
